The Miller Hayashi team has been volunteering for the Seattle Architecture Foundation’s After School Program at Hamilton Middle School. Through a combination of drawing and model building, youth are introduced to the world of architecture. Topics include architectural history, public space, equitable design, the life of an architect, and presentation skills.
Miller Hayashi participated in the 2015 Seattle Design Festival. The Seattle Design Festival is a city-wide event sponsored by the Seattle AIA and Design in Public. The event showcases the design impact on societal issues. The 2015 theme – Design for Equity invited the community to explore the definition of equity and demonstrate how design can improve the quality of space for everyone. This event was a great opportunity for our firm to get involved with the community, and provide an open forum through a physical design installation.
Construction at the Rainier Beach branch library is scheduled to begin Summer 2015. The project includes interior alterations to create more flexible children and family spaces, community meeting spaces, new finishes and furnishings, and roofing and window replacement.
